Jesse Marsch was appointed as the new Leeds head coach, less than 24 hours after Marcelo Bielsa was sacked, and that has led to question marks over Phillips’ future. The British press have reported that Manchester United are interested in acquiring Phillips in the summer.
Information shows that they will face competition from arch-rival Liverpool. Recently, they met another tough opponent in the race to get the British player’s signature when Newcastle United also entered.
Newcastle plan to hold a meeting later this month to determine the priority positions that Eddie Howe wants to recruit in the summer.
Newcastle are in great financial strength, plus recent results have helped the club attract quality players to build on for its new project. They have also expressed interest in Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, whose contract runs out this summer but is likely to play for only one club in the Champions League next season.
Leeds United, after an impressive Premier League re-export season, is struggling and is in danger of relegation.
