As planned, Malaysia will send 654 athletes to the 31st SEA Games, including 435 men and 219 women. The number of athletes from Malaysia is only behind hosts Vietnam (965 people) and Thailand (871 people).

At the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines, Malaysia ranked 5th in the whole team with 56 gold medals, 57 silver medals and 71 bronze medals. Malaysia won twice in the entire delegation in 2001 and 2017, when it was the host of the SEA Games.
