Thirty-two names have been identified for the 2022 World Cup finals. Recently, The Athletic calculated the average ranking based on the FIFA rankings of each group, and divided the difficulty of each group from the easiest to the most difficult.
According to FIFA rankings, Group B is considered the most difficult of the competition (average ranking 14.75). This year, England (5th) has Iran (21st), the United States (15th) and Wales (18th). No group has a higher average ranking in the 2022 World Cup.
Group E has Spain (7), Germany (12), Japan (23) and Costa Rica (31), with an average rating of 18.25. Surprises are expected in Japan and Costa Rica.
According to the FIFA system, Brazil (1) is currently the highest ranked. However, Group G, consisting of Serbia (25), Switzerland (14) and Cameroon (37), is also third with an average of 19.25.
Croatia (16) and Belgium (2) have higher scores in Group F than Morocco (24) and Canada (38). However, this group is ranked 4th in difficulty. The average FIFA ranking is 20.
Argentina (4) will be in the same group as Saudi Arabia (49), Mexico (9) and Poland (26). If played well, Lionel Messi and his team-mates can win the top spot in Group C. The average FIFA ranking for this group is 22.
France (3) are the defending champions, so it will be a huge shock if they don’t qualify for the knockout rounds. Group D of “Les Bleus” includes Denmark (11), Tunisia (35) and Australia (42), with an average FIFA ranking of 22.75.
Portugal (8) have a chance to continue with Uruguay (13) when Group H is assessed as not difficult. Ghana (60) and South Korea (29) will have to make a difference. The table has an average FIFA ranking of 27.5. Notably, Ghana is the lowest-ranked team in the 2022 World Cup.
Group A, which hosts Qatar (51), is considered the most comfortable group, including the Netherlands (10), Senegal (20) and Ecuador (46), according to the FIFA rankings (average rank 31.75). You know, in the 2018 World Cup, Qatar’s FIFA ranking is better than Russia.
The artificial intelligence (AI)-focused Stats Perform page has just released the list of teams most likely to win the 2022 World Cup. According to this list, France has a 2022 World Cup winning rate of about 17.93%. The “Blues” are the defending champions, having just been crowned in the 2021 Nations League. France has a strong and deep presence that will be a big challenge for any team in Qatar at the end of the year.
Brazil ranks second with a winning percentage of about 15.73%. “Selecao” leads the South American World Cup qualifying stage with 14 wins and 3 draws. The last time Brazil won the World Cup was in 2002.
Spain is in the top three with a championship rate of 11.53%. Coach Luis Enrique’s team performed well at Euro 2020, despite the fact that the squad is in the process of changing. Spain’s uncomfortable style of control has left many teams feeling shy.
England have always had high expectations in major tournaments but have yet to win the title. In the 2022 World Cup, Opta has given the Three Lions an 8.03% win rate. England have a well-balanced squad on all fronts, with players reaching maturity in their careers and eager to lift the trophy in Qatar.
Belgium is a controversial team that has dominated the FIFA rankings for years but has never won or reached the final of a major tournament. Belgium is 5th among the championship candidates with 7.90%.
Before participating in the 2022 World Cup final, the Netherlands has a 7.70% championship rate with more personnel changes. Veteran coach Louis van Gaal replaces Frank de Boer in July 2021. In the 2014 World Cup, the Dutch team coached by coach Louis van Gaal ranked third in total, winning the championships of the host Brazil and Spain.
Germany’s position in the championship candidate group is not high, only 7.21%. In the 2018 World Cup, the German team was weak and out of the group stage. In the last game, the team lost 0-2 to South Korea.
Lionel Messi has high hopes for the World Cup, which is believed to be the last of his career. Argentina’s championship rate is 6.45%. Messi and his team-mates reached the final of the 2014 World Cup, but only finished second.
Similar to Messi is Cristiano Ronaldo, who is still searching for the inaugural World Cup Gold Cup with Portugal. Calculations show that the winning rate of the “European Brazil team” is about 5.11%. CR7 scored 6 goals in the last qualifying match and won the title of top scorer of the national team.
Croatia are no longer appreciated at the 2022 World Cup as stars Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic or Mario Mandzukic are all older. The team has a championship percentage of 2.31 percent.
The latest FIFA rankings will be released on June 23, but from now on, Argentina fans can be completely satisfied knowing the home team has advanced.
In the March 2022 FIFA rankings, the top 5 include the following teams:
Argentina will overtake France into the top three in FIFA’s rankings in June 2022.
However, according to the latest calculations, that will change as France and Argentina swap places.According to a Twitter account called @gastonedul The top 5 announced on June 23rd will be:
This comes after up to 300 matches played globally between April 7th and June 14th. Compared to France, who underperformed in the 2022/23 Nations League, Argentina’s performance has been impressive. France have just two points after four games, even though the only Group 1 opponents in the 2022/23 season are Austria, Croatia and Denmark.
After a 3-0 victory over Italy in the Intercontinental Super Cup, Messi and his teammates once again defeated Estonia 5-0. Meanwhile, Brazil also beat the Asian teams in two friendly matches, South Korea (5-1) and Japan (1-0).
FIFA rankings are calculated based on goals/conceals, home or away games, importance of the game/tournament and the strength of the opponents.
